  1.     You are inside The Online Pub (or TOP for short), a door that lets you
  2. conference (chat) with other users on the BBS.
  3.  
  4.     TOP is a line-by-line conference program.  This means that the text you
  5. type is not sent until you press ENTER or RETURN.  It works a lot like many
  6. other chat programs on the market, as well as IRC on the Internet.

  8.     When you see a prompt that has your name (or handle) followed by a colon,
  9. then you know TOP is awaiting your typing.  This prompt is called the main
  10. prompt.  For example, if your name is John Doe, you would see a main prompt
  11. that looks like this:

  15.     The simplest thing to do when you see this prompt is to start chatting!
  16. Simply type the text you wish to say, press ENTER or RETURN, and it will be
  17. instantly sent to other users.  You can also enter one of many different
  18. commands, to perform many different functions.  Use the COMMANDS command for a
  19. list of commands.  You can also use the HELP TOPICS command to find out what
  20. else you can do inside TOP.

  22.     TOP has a complete online help system to guide you.  If you wish, you can
  23. simply dive right in and start chatting with other users, provided that there
  24. are other users inside TOP right now.  Press ENTER or RETURN at the main prompt
  25. to see if anybody else is in TOP with you.  You can discover how to use TOP's
  26. other commands when you need or want to.  Alternatively, you can use the HELP
  27. command to explore TOP's many different features and find out how to use its
  28. many different commands right now.
